What remains of us when the mask disappears?

For more than a decade, Catalan artist and architect Ernest Compta Llinàs has returned persistently to the human face — not as portrait, but as emotional territory.
His anonymous figures do not tell us who they are. Through distortion, colour, gesture and gaze, they speak instead about vulnerability, solitude, longing, resistance and the complexity of being human.
NNC Gallery has followed Ernest’s artistic development over several years, through selections, publications and continued curatorial observation.
From his earlier appearances in our projects and his 2022 selections to his recognition as NNC Gallery Artist of the Year 2024, what interests us is not a single successful work, but the continuity of his research and the evolution of a recognisable artistic language.
Alongside this journey, his work has continued to circulate internationally, with exhibitions and projects from Barcelona, London and New York to Milan, Venice, Cannes, Istanbul, Lisbon and Tokyo.
Today we continue to present Ernest Compta Llinàs to collectors, curators, galleries and art professionals as part of our ongoing research into emerging and mid-career contemporary artists.

AGNIESZKA RYRYCH
Winner of the NNC Challenge 2022, Agnieszka Ryrych lives and works in Ireland. Her surrealist painting draws on memory, observation and emotion, but also on the cultural landscape in which she grew up: a world shaped by different religions, folk legends, myths and superstitions.
Working mainly with acrylic on canvas, Ryrych places the human figure, and particularly women, at the centre of an intensely emotional universe. Melancholy, sadness and the darker side of experience emerge through colour and portraiture: for the artist, a portrait is never simply an image, but a delicate story.
Agnieszka Ryrych is featured in NNC Visual Magazine Vol. 20, as part of our continuing work of presenting and following emerging contemporary artists over time.

Not just a magazine. A real space for artists and contemporary art. For nearly ten years, NNC Gallery has worked to select and promote authentic new contemporary art beyond the usual circuits. NNC Visual Magazine is part of this long-term curatorial research. It is designed to give artists the space their work deserves: large images, carefully constructed visual sequences and pages that allow each project to be understood. The magazine exists both in print and online, becoming a real professional tool that artists can share with collectors, curators, galleries, institutions and new contacts.

It is also a hybrid publication. QR codes and digital links connect its printed pages to artist profiles, interviews, projects on the NNC Gallery website.

The image becomes the beginning of a wider journey. The publication continues to generate visibility, credibility and reputation over time. For collectors and art professionals, NNC Visual Magazine has become a valuable tool for discovering genuine new contemporary art outside the most predictable and established circuits. For artists, it is an opportunity to present their research through a serious, carefully curated and lasting publication. Three different artistic practices.
Three ways of transforming beauty, memory and cultural identity into images.
Françoise Wattrè, with NNC Galelry since 2017, creates modern floral works in which flowers become symbols of beauty, transformation and the transience of life. Through mixed media, colour and intuitive gestures, her paintings connect nature, poetry and inner experience.

Elena Stashkova, winner of the NNC Challenge 2022, combines traditional figurative painting with surreal and mystical elements. She describes her practice as Mystical Realism: recognisable images become gateways to archetypes, places and hidden narratives.

Minas Sanim, with us since 2022, an Ethiopian multidisciplinary artist, creates extraordinary portraits using small fragments of magazine paper. His paper mosaics celebrate Ethiopian women, cultural identity and traditional geometrical patterns, turning necessity into an original artistic language.
Different countries.
Different materials.
Different stories.
This is what an international collective should be: not a uniform aesthetic, but a space where singular artistic voices can remain recognisable.

ARTIST FOR NEW COLLECTORS — JOHN BACON
John Bacon is an American abstract artist whose work is built through colour, form and intuition.

Born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Bacon first developed a deep relationship with abstract art as a collector. Over time, this long engagement with painting led him to create his own body of work.

His paintings are largely non-representational and develop without fixed preliminary plans. The process is instinctive: the artist allows the canvas to guide the composition, creating works that remain open, energetic and emotionally direct.

For John Bacon, abstract art is not only something to look at. It is something to feel.

He was selected as a Winner of the NNC Gallery Challenge 2020, and we have followed and monitored the development of his work ever since.

Now, in 2026, his practice continues to grow through new colour relationships, techniques and compositional solutions. Our selections are serious and long-term: we do not present artists on the basis of a single work, but follow their consistency, production and evolution over time.

For new collectors, John Bacon’s work offers a strong entry point into contemporary abstraction: recognisable, visually engaging and capable of creating an immediate emotional relationship with the viewer.

The works currently presented on our website are those through which we originally selected the artist. His most recent production can be verified through his official contacts.

Hanieh “Honey” Jalali — with NNC Gallery since 2021
Since 2021, NNC Gallery has been following the artistic journey of Hanieh “Honey” Jalali, an Iranian multidisciplinary artist born in Tehran and currently based in Calgary, Canada.

Her practice moves across painting, photography, collage, graphic design, installation, poetry, performance and participatory art. Over the past five years, we have observed the evolution of her visual language and the growing coherence of a research centred on migration, memory, female identity, freedom, trauma and belonging.

In My Pillow, an ordinary and intimate object becomes a symbolic space: refuge, memory, body, fear and desire for freedom.

Hanieh has continued to develop her practice through residencies, exhibitions, community workshops and public art projects in Canada.

NNC Gallery does not select artists for a single publication and then leave their journey behind. We follow their work over time, update their profiles and introduce active, evolving artists to collectors, curators, galleries, art advisors, institutions and cultural professionals.

We also continue to discover emerging and mid-career artists through our international open calls.

For several years we have followed Keith's practice, monitoring the development of his work and updating his archive. This is one of the principles that defines NNC Gallery: we present artists whose research continues to grow over time.

Through printmaking, drawing and mixed media, Keith transforms trees into a visual metaphor for human relationships. Inspired by the groundbreaking ecological research of Suzanne Simard on the underground fungal networks that allow forests to communicate and support one another, his project That Which Connects Us... reminds us that no living being exists in isolation.

Each tree becomes a portrait of interdependence.
Each root becomes a connection between people, cultures and generations.
Each print is an invitation to rethink our relationship with nature and with one another.

At a time when climate change and environmental crises challenge our future, Keith's work reminds us that a healthy ecosystem is built on cooperation rather than competition. Forests survive because they share. Perhaps humanity should learn the same lesson.

FOR ART COLLECTORS FRANK BOYCE — Collective 21 IG @frankboyceart

NNC Gallery is proud to present Frank Boyce, part of our artistic network since 2021 and selected as Artist of the Year 2025.
Based in Northwest Ireland, Frank Boyce is an artist, teacher and maker whose practice brings together drawing, sculpture, installation, found materials and social reflection. His work is deeply connected to the human condition, politics, religion, labour, climate change, biodiversity and the instability of contemporary life. Language plays a central role in his research: words, objects and materials become tools through which the artist questions how meaning is created, imposed and transformed.
A recurring presence in his recent work is the figure of the Burned Man: a scarred and charred sentinel, a witness standing at the margins of society. This figure reflects the condition of precarious workers, people excluded from housing security, pensions and social protection, but it also evokes the Jungian shadow—the hidden, wounded and unresolved part of the collective psyche.
Frank’s artistic vision has been shaped by many experiences: teaching art to young people, working in community education and mental health contexts, studying martial arts and Eastern philosophy, and creating a permaculture garden and food forest in Donegal, where he planted thousands of trees and bushes.
His work reminds us that contemporary art can still ask difficult questions, expose social fractures and create new spaces for awareness.
For NNC Gallery, following an artist means observing the development of a practice over time. Since 2021, Frank Boyce has continued to build a coherent, socially engaged and deeply personal body of work.

We are delighted to share the new project by @olanalight, an artist from NNC Gallery Collective 21.

Between Land and Tide is a public art project bringing large-scale wearable sculptures and live performances into public spaces across Portsmouth, transforming parks, beaches, historic sites and city streets into spaces of encounter between body, landscape and nature.
Inspired by marine ecosystems and the coastal landscape, Olana Light creates figures that seem to emerge directly from the sea: presences suspended between the human and the natural, inviting the public to pause, observe and reflect on our relationship with the environment.
We have followed Olana’s artistic journey for many years, after selecting her for NNC Gallery for the quality of her research across sculpture, performance and installation. It is always a great pleasure to see our artists developing increasingly ambitious projects and sharing their work with an international audience.

For the past three years, NNC Gallery has been closely following the development of Yukang Tao’s artistic practice. Working across video, performance, animation and electronic art, Tao investigates the relationships between body, technology, gender, surveillance and visibility. Their research reflects some of the most urgent questions of contemporary culture, transforming the body into a space of resistance, experimentation and new possibilities.

At NNC Gallery, we believe that supporting an artist means observing the evolution of their research over time, not simply presenting a single work and moving on. Lucas Goubert is among the selected finalists of the NNC Gallery Challenge 2025.

Based in Paris, Lucas Goubert develops a raw mixed-media practice in which the body becomes a grotesque theatre of speech, desire and emotional rupture.

His project is structured around the poetic image of five mouths: lying, screaming, biting, vomiting words and longing for an absent touch.

Through anatomical fragments, wires, drawn organs, applied objects and raw colour, his works confront the body as a place where language becomes unstable, excessive and wounded.

NNC Gallery Challenge 2025 Finalist: Lucas Goubert

NNC Gallery is pleased to present Lucas Goubert among the selected finalists of the NNC Gallery Challenge 2025.

Based in Paris, Lucas Goubert works across mixed media, assemblage, drawing and object-based practice. His project for the Challenge is structured around the poetic image of five mouths: The Lying Mouth, The Forked Tongue, The Biting Mouth, The Vomiting Mouth and The Void Kissing Mouth.

In these large mixed-media works, the body becomes an exposed and unstable organism. Anatomical fragments, wires, drawn organs, applied objects and raw colour create figures that move between vulnerability, violence and grotesque presence.

NNC Gallery selected Lucas Goubert for the coherence of his poetic structure, the raw intensity of his visual language and the way his work confronts the body as a site of speech, desire, damage and absence.

A self-taught Moroccan artist based in Marrakech, Imane Hanini works with acrylic painting, color-blocking and textured surfaces.

Her practice moves between contemporary reinterpretations of classical icons, soft dreamlike atmospheres and tactile works made with modeling paste and acrylics.

NNC Gallery selected her as a finalist for the energy of her emerging practice, her technical discipline and the potential of her research into color, surface and material presence.

Nataliia Burmaka is among the selected finalists of the NNC Gallery Challenge 2025.

Originally from Ukraine and now based in Finland, Nataliia Burmaka develops a symbolic and textured painting practice through acrylic and mixed media.

Her project Textures explores the human emotional landscape as a visible surface. Emotions, memories, instincts and inner states become layers, fragments, roots and organic forms.

In works such as Growing Talent, A Power of Stereotypes, A True Face of Integration, Somatic Echo and Searching for Roots, the artist reflects on vulnerability, stereotypes, integration, somatic memory and the search for belonging.

Her work invites viewers to look beneath the surface and consider how identity is shaped by personal history, cultural expectations and emotional experience.

NNC Gallery selected Nataliia Burmaka for the coherence of her psychological research and the symbolic quality of her visual language.

A Finnish professional photographer, Pentti Katajisto develops a fine art practice focused on abstraction, light, chance and natural structures.

His series Wired was created where sunlight meets metal mesh. Through this simple but unpredictable condition, the images become fragile visual structures suspended between drawing, sculpture and photographic apparition.

NNC Gallery selected him for the coherence of his abstract photographic research, the elegance of his visual language and his ability to transform minimal conditions into contemplative images.

Luciano Caggianello selected as a finalist of the NNC Gallery Challenge 2025

NNC Gallery is pleased to present Luciano Caggianello among the selected finalists of the NNC Gallery Challenge 2025.

Born in Siena and based in Turin, Caggianello is an Italian artist and designer whose practice moves across conceptual art, mixed media, digital experimentation, installation and visual research.

His project reflects on everyday life, history, philosophy, poetry and contemporary systems of perception. His work does not simply represent reality, but constructs visual and material devices that question how reality is organised, consumed and narrated.

In works such as MAGIC MIRROR, WORLD ATTEMPTS, SHARP LITERATURE, CAGE WORLD and ARCHQUATICO, mirrors, maps, books, patterns and visual structures become tools for critical reflection.

NNC Gallery selected Luciano Caggianello for the maturity of his conceptual research, the coherence of his interdisciplinary practice and the relevance of his work within contemporary visual culture.

Oishi Roy Dutta is among the selected finalists of the NNC Gallery Challenge 2025.

Based between London and New Delhi, Oishi Roy Dutta works across collage, drawing, moving image, sculpture and digital media.

Her practice explores the relationship between organic life, digital systems, ecology and contemporary desire. In her project Dress Myself, she examines the psychological, emotional and bodily impact of digital consumer culture, targeted advertising and online intimacy.

Through layered compositions made of collaged imagery, digital fragments, ink and photographic material, Dutta transforms the body into a site where identity, consumption, technology and longing collide.

Works such as a balanced diet, Deep sea, Deep fake and All my friends are online, romance is hypothetical, and I’m touch starved reflect a world where desire is manufactured online and physical presence becomes increasingly fragile.

NNC Gallery selected Oishi Roy Dutta for the conceptual strength of her research, the urgency of her themes and the distinctive visual language of her multidisciplinary practice.

Michelangelo Bonitatibus is among the selected finalists of the NNC Gallery Challenge 2025.

Also known as Mibo, Michelangelo Bonitatibus is an Italian ceramic artist and poet whose work explores clay as a living material shaped by time, erosion, light and natural transformation.

Working with stoneware, earthenware and porcelain, he creates ceramic forms that move between vessel, sculpture, fragment, landscape and memory.

His research is particularly strong in series such as Erosion, Cederberg, Meridian-0 and Between oasis and oblivion, where the ceramic surface becomes a place of passage: marked by earth, desert, water, shadow and poetic imagination.

NNC Gallery selected Michelangelo Bonitatibus for the coherence of his ceramic language, the refinement of his material research and the contemplative strength of his sculptural forms.

The selected artist will be featured with 3 pages in both the printed and online edition of the magazine.

We are looking for strong, coherent and carefully presented art projects in the following areas:

Artists are required to send:

5 artworks
High-resolution files suitable for print
Bio in PDF or Word format
Artist statement and project text in PDF

Applications with low-resolution images, broken links or photographed text documents may be rejected.

For video artists: please include three still images from your videos and the related links. If selected, the stills will be published in the printed magazine with QR codes, and the video links will be included in the online edition.

Submitting your application does not automatically include you in this year’s Collective Challenge. The Challenge follows a separate curatorial process.

A research-driven curatorial platform where artists are selected, documented, and presented over time, offering curators and collectors a reliable ecosystem of emerging and mid-career artists.

Since 2017, we have operated as an online art gallery grounded in long-term artistic observation.
Our practice is based on continuity, memory, and curatorial responsibility, rather than short-term visibility.

Over the years, we have developed and followed collectives of artists, presenting their work through editorial projects, virtual exhibitions, and ongoing curatorial contexts. Some artists remain within the gallery over time, while others pass through. This evolution is an integral part of our curatorial process.

The Challenge functions as our scouting tool: an open curatorial field where artists enter a cycle of observation. It is not a destination, a prize, or a guarantee of visibility, but a gateway into a longer process shaped by research, growth, and participation.

Alongside this, we publish two magazines and curate virtual exhibitions, extending our editorial and curatorial vision within an international context connected to London and Europe.

We do not accumulate artists.
