Elena Stashkova

Elena Stashkova (Ionova) is a Russian-based artist and poet. Her work has been published in Modern Ural Poetry anthologies and in various magazines. She is the author of ‘A Gallery of Ural Literature’ poetry collection and the collection ‘N City and Environs’.
In my artistic practice, I rely on traditional figurative art, giving it new meanings and
interpretations. I work in several areas: painting and graphics, performance, and stage
costume/art masks. In my work, I start from an image, an idea, and work with
"archetypes of a place". For me, the creative component of art, its aesthetic component
is important. My favourite game with spectator perception is to give a realistic image of
something well-readable and simultaneously "slip" surreal and mystical details. I define
my genre as "mystical realism".
