Mirko Frignani
2022
Mirko Frignani is 38 years old and lives and works between Montecchio Emilia and Milan. He graduated from NABA in Milan and has a master’s degree in contemporary photography directed by Mustafa Sabbagh at Spazio Labò in Bologna.
His is a conceptual work in which often photographs are only a part of larger projects that provide, especially from the curatorial point of view, the use of different media: from installation to sculpture, from painting to embroidery. A fascinating journey full of poetry that enriches him and encourages him to show himself and tell what little he has understood from life so far.
In every work I try to express something beyond the visual.
I believe that our life is a web of very thick threads: an infinite network of people,
emotions, memories, places, moments and that is why the threads are very present
in my works.
Freedom is pure illusion but it is granted to us every now and then and lasts the
time of a heartbeat. We are all equilibrists on a complicated and intertwined world. I
create images that I can turn to and within which I can pray and maybe live that
heartbeat.
And so at 38 I can call myself a believing observer of utopias.
I think. I look. I doubt.
CONCEPT- LE CAMERE DEL CUORE NON HANNO
PARETI // THE HEART CHAMBERS HAVE NO WALLS
We live in a historical period in which everything is questioned; there is always a
denier around the corner ready to devalue, deny and underestimate any argument
and this makes society insecure and angry. Starting from this feeling of economic,
health, civil and moral instability, I asked myself what in the world remained a
certainty, an axiom. The heart. We were all touched by a puppy when we were little
or wept in front of certain cartoons. That’s the heart. That feeling of tenderness that
turns into a desire for protection, responsibility, affection. It’s not a trait that fades
over time. It remains but is overwhelmed by the idea that this sensitivity weakens
us: in part it is true and it is also the only thing that makes us unique: humanity. The
fact that it makes us vulnerable is beautiful and the weak name is just a judgment
that we give but absolutely not necessary. The heart therefore remains our
strongest engine and capable of transforming our bodies into something ephemeral
that distinguishes us and makes us different from each other. In a certain sense the
heart has no place because it is wherever there is humanity.
We all have hearts.
The heart is the organ that we most often forget to have and use.
The heart has no flag.
The heart has no color.
The heart is not prejudiced.
The heart has no tongue.
The heart has no barriers.
The heart has no filters.
The heart is an instrument of inestimable value.
The heart doesn’t see the differences, it feels them.
The heart does not judge, it lives.
The heart is empathetic.
The heart is strong.
The heart is made up of rooms.
From the chambers of the heart flow different emotions.
The rooms of the heart are welcoming and kind.
The heart chambers have no walls.
